final year project... with continuation

What I've done for my final year project with about 70% process work included because the rest are too scribbly or just plain lost. Plus I don't want to include too many random thumbnails. Recap from previous post... it's based on mining/trade economy and is inspired by blood diamonds and the eternal strife for resources in history. Planned to have various level of "classes" in society, didn't plan well enough to include more character/creature/props stuff. Going to expand on it further.

Thesis/project Ochroia

Thesis/project Ochroia. I was influenced by conflict minerals and the dwindling resources of rare earths regarding production of electronics when coming up with an idea. A certain planet has a rumoured organic mineral called Xyarch that is based in myth.Mercenaries and mining corporations arrive on this planet to find and harvest this crystal tree, along with other minerals. Certain members of its population gain mysterious powers due to ingesting high concentration of this mineral in the water and food. The higher the contamination the better the chances, hence these often happen to be the peasants, though the rich have reprooduced these results in very controlled conditions. The catch is that members of the population regard the tree/crystals as objects of worship and attirbute these powers as being blessed, while researchers, the corporations and most of the upper crust suspect its due to an isolated factor. Three main factions are warring between letting the mining corps to continue their exacavation of the planet, reserving the use and sale of various minerals for themselves or to minimise and halt harvesting of the minerals.

It was going to be medieval/sci fi genre, which really means steampunk, but it ran away with itself.

what I should do next.  :I  With painting snow, in some areas it still feels the same, like I didn't shape it enough. Plus reflected light is shot in this one.

long update

Posting doodles and some in development pieces. I update my tumblr more often than this blog. D:

Summer went pretty great, learnt lots though I always wish I can learn and do more!

I'm at the point where I'm comfortable with drawing, as opposed to before where I feel like everything I put down is a bloody mistake.

Starting a creature a day thing to get better! I update most often at my tumblr! Check it out if you have the time. Also posting cool stuff by other people on it.. you know how tumblr is... a cesspool of awesome.

Warm up to get back into things. :D

Cheers and work hard everyone!

enviros

Haven't actually done a cityscape before; I realised I leaned towards the more fantasy, hobbit land sort of thing. So here's to trying and painting different things! Though I do like mixing tech with greenery...

Matte painting? Or matte concept.... I'm confused. My piece of hobbit-inspired art.

experimenting with things.. sparth's custom shape method. It has A LOT of design potential, plus with whatever I picked up from graphic design. I want to see what I can do with it , and initially got the method wrong too lol. Starting with a sketch.

biomimicry

Biomimicry. Or to be fair, it's more of a biomorphic design than anything. The biomimicry part is just the termite mound inspired cooling system.  So basically these are mining mechs who operate in a hive system so as to reduce human presence when mining on faraway planets. Unit Somnus L5 is the "queen" of the mech hive and is the only one who directly communicates with the human operators dispatched to said planet. Otherwise, the operators do interact with the other mechas when in need of serious repairs.  If said planet is too hostile for human living conditions, the operators are usually stationed nearby in a space kiosk or something.......

Related to the "cutaway" below hahaha.

Yeah. Was watching the SCII Heart of the Swarm trailer a wee bit too many times....

decided to finally sit down and do a diorama, inspired by robogabo's blog. :D
Although from my point of view it looks like a cutaway.

sketch

Shall attempt doing a small painting each day, except for work days. During this, I have realised I am horrible at painting rocks/cliffs/anything that is a by product of earth's self mutilation sessions.
