bits and pieces

dropping off studies and wips
just trying to simplify shapes, that sort of thing.  The composition by Gerome is sooo good, wish I'd looked at it more while in school.

playing around with magical underpainting type things.. top one was inspired by fog of war mechanics and ... the lovely weather.  bottom one is a wip. Trying to get more mood into it, it's not doing it yet.

enviros

Haven't actually done a cityscape before; I realised I leaned towards the more fantasy, hobbit land sort of thing. So here's to trying and painting different things! Though I do like mixing tech with greenery...

Matte painting? Or matte concept.... I'm confused. My piece of hobbit-inspired art.

today's sketch. Just trying to see if I can carry a theme/likeness thing.

sundays are for sketching

Some sketches, had to get the giant head statues out of my brain, so there it went. Top 3 are from London still. I miss the sweets.

doodling

So i somehow lost all of my sketchbook scans, have to get them rescanned next week.   ><

Have these instead.

Sometimes random doodles churn into butter.  And then you can make cake.

Merchant of Duvii

alien theme.  Got lazy and based it on the assassin bug which I did research for before.. but decided to switch up the proportions a bit.

"When dealing with the merchants of Duvii, one must always wear an impenetrable helmet, for they have an unfortunate tendency to use their protrusions to inject a deadly poison into the foreheads of opposing merchants, whenever they encounter a deal in which they disagree. Which is to say, fairly often...but as they are the only known dealers of the rare drug phenatine, this leaves buyers little choice."

I have been watching too much Breaking Bad, hence the choice of temperamental/homicidal drug dealers. Until the next theme!

sort of hiatus?

Haven't been posting things, but I guess I will upload the end of term stuff that I did before going on a self induced learning break. So there aren't going to be as much uploads as before.  Man I really dislike living at home. There is just no sense of personal space/studio that I can do work all day in.  So I'm actually heading to the library instead of staying at home. If it wasn't for the part time job... I'd say that I'd still be in Oakville. :C

Toronto Comic Arts Festival this weekend! Woot.

Also extremely frustrated about the hiking tuition cost for no damn apparent reason. It's higher than animation's, but we get half of the resources, or even less. ( an estimation).  Please send emails to the student president/deans/mps to whatever parties you can if you fellow students do not want to pay this extremely unreasonable cost.

half hour warm ups, studies from mag

This week's theme. I still need to finish detailing it ugggggg, but it's good enough for the theme.

And so an umbrella in the face

Close up

Done for theme city slicker.  Realllllly need to do more like whoa, realised I don't have enough things for a decent anything.  On another note, I have never coded anything in my entire life and found it a mass of confusion until I sort of understood it a few hours ago....  /brianhurt

Need sleeepppp.. and find myself resorting to undead pimply things to paint. Bioshock influence is evident, I hope...  They're all low res.

Somehow prefer the b/w version, I didn't pay much effort to the colours. For this week's theme, ski resort.. and it reminded me of all those skiing deaths in recent years, hence the zombie.

For another monthly sketch. Bioshock style virus in the Middle Ages? Instant epidemic, that's what... so the populace has gone insane and will attack any traveller that comes within distance, not to mention the roving bands of afflicted knights, bandits and what not. Lack of hygiene makes things worse indeed.

blackberry

This week's theme is blackberry!  So I did this semi-crude image because I thought of blackberry, bushes and  then trimming. In a different style then usual; looking at a friend's stuff reminded me that I still need to try out other things.
Plus wrong leg muscles as a bonus.

Other choice for blackberry.  Had quite a few random ideas but decided not to do all of them.

shi- wip

WIP and MOAR VALUE PROBLEMS.   And so much work left to do this week.

bugs

For friends' weekly theme thing, thanks for inviting! Though I think I did a rather cliched image. Probably still unfinished.

The current bug assignment.... equally parts cool and disgusting. I can't stand the small teeny ones. the bigger the better because I can actually see them.  Rough linear.

tofu anatomy

Because tofu is always hot on the inside when you eat it, causing your mouth to explode. Wanted to try something new, but probably the last time I shall do vector art.

something

Paintings seem to be poorly done this week, thanks to messrs homework and everyday stress. Finally a decent something popped up, but can tell that I'm NOT looking forward to painting them organic things

short

Got recommended a bunch of bird documentaries to watch for homework.  :D   I love this class.

Just a quick update of a short enviro study

......   really need to use brighter colours - everything is so muddy! Plus I am totally clueless as to what to do with the background.  Failed thumbnail values 101 as well.   :C

first post of 2012

...2012.   I'm dreading this year. Not because of some Mayan prediction.  Some paint sketches I did to warm up after not painting for a long time.

Skyrim influence. It's now locked away where I can't touch it.

Step

Decided to try out this cinematic style of things after watching so many movies... really interested in lighting because it affects everything - trying to find sources for MOAR study.

Any crits please?  I'm not sure if the lighting on the hair is right, or if the mood succeeded.  I skimped on the rope, admittedly.
Also, need to paint more hair, it was the single most frustrating thing on this piece.  ):

Still feel that my faces in general are not very good, gotta paint more!
