first life painting of the year!

Tried out this new method of using acrylics and it looks alright?  Supposed to start with a watery layer and work upwards., sort of like oil's fat over lean rule. I found it difficult to control the brush shapes when I did this. An unexpected side effect was that the colours all look pretty cold until I got to the thicker layers. Haven't painted life figures at all during the summer, my brain needs to go back into processing shape, which I'm still depressingly poor at.  FINALLY gotten the rest of the sketches scanned in today.Whoop.

The entire process of getting ready for a flight is fascinating. And the interior of the plane itself is full of blending weird curves. Plus:  Häagen-Dazs  ice cream. Of which coffee is one of the 3 original flavours. :)

shape

Just did a few really quick studies of stuff, photo rights belongs to their original owners. Shape painting is something I'm currently interested in. In which you paint the shapes of the object to make it work? That was probably a very crappy explanation. But here's a link to help explain it better!  This guy's sketchbook enviros are pretty much what I am trying to get at.  I'm still short of a lot of sticks. and shape sense. Less is more!

sketch1

en route to Hilltop!

The man on the right caught me drawing and asked me to give him MORE HAIR.  HAIR, BEAR AND THE MAIDEN FAIR.

Top sketch was at a pub whilst waiting for the bus. We initially walked to our destination, but it was on the road itself and had absolutely no pedestrian path whatsoever, framed by bushes and trees and lovely flies. Why on earth do people build plenty of sharp bends on country roads?

sketch

Shall attempt doing a small painting each day, except for work days. During this, I have realised I am horrible at painting rocks/cliffs/anything that is a by product of earth's self mutilation sessions.

fooling around

Never tried sculptris before SO HERE IS THE NONSENSE THAT GOT CREATED after fooling around for 5 mins. It's free, and is virtually a free version of zbrush - also by pixologic. :D   As usual I have no idea what I am doing when exploring 3D programs.

Merchant of Duvii

alien theme.  Got lazy and based it on the assassin bug which I did research for before.. but decided to switch up the proportions a bit.

"When dealing with the merchants of Duvii, one must always wear an impenetrable helmet, for they have an unfortunate tendency to use their protrusions to inject a deadly poison into the foreheads of opposing merchants, whenever they encounter a deal in which they disagree. Which is to say, fairly often...but as they are the only known dealers of the rare drug phenatine, this leaves buyers little choice."

I have been watching too much Breaking Bad, hence the choice of temperamental/homicidal drug dealers. Until the next theme!
