Mixed bag

Starting to paint things more regularly! Stuff from the past 2 weeks.

Ornithology assignment Parts A and B

Part A: Bird Topography
My illustrator files seem to be getting absurdly huge. O_O

Part B:  Wing Feather arrangement

Le Hawks were so cool!  Too bad we didn't get an owl or something equally exotic this year.

Sketch dump

Sketches from hawk visits last week + ROM trip

sheathbill

Used blue pencil but somehow it became a really light grey when scanned.. so some surgery was needed.

ruffed grouse

Harris hawk

Red-tailed Hawk

FACES! Which I haven't done in a long time.. I think I drew them too generic-ish. Yes I hate black conte.

Painting uses too much brain.  Shape + colour study. Failed composition + chopping of limbs , thanks for the crit~   I'm only pleased with the legs.  :C

couple of last week's LDs

Me foot is off.  It looks like it needs to be bigger, but I can't show it turning.

Not so much observing as it is design? Or changing from observation to design.

Got recommended a bunch of bird documentaries to watch for homework.  :D   I love this class.

Just a quick update of a short enviro study

......   really need to use brighter colours - everything is so muddy! Plus I am totally clueless as to what to do with the background.  Failed thumbnail values 101 as well.   :C

first post of 2012

...2012.   I'm dreading this year. Not because of some Mayan prediction.  Some paint sketches I did to warm up after not painting for a long time.

Skyrim influence. It's now locked away where I can't touch it.

LDs

For the past few weeks been trying to get back into life drawing. Still can't achieve the values and contrast that I want. Definitely need wayyyy more practice controlling values whilst depicting form.

Weird legs methinks.

Dual colour fail.

RWF

Rwf from a few weeks back.

Cows were the easiest to draw simply because they sat and shat and ate.

Surprisingly enough the pigs rolled around a lot.

Amazed at the size of a draft horse. Almost twice as high as a human male, so if you sit on one, effectively gives you a treble height difference which makes it really intimidating. Wonder if they were used as war horses in the past? Top image is of regular, not draft horses running around.

some school related work and other things

..... I think everybody knows that I'm sorely disappointed with the choice of program we were made to render with. I'm pretty sure no one uses this in industry. NO ONE. /dontevenknowwhyimpostingthis

30 minute study of le hand , which looked much better than my other, 2.5 hr struggle of a painting.

Final versions of skull/limb comparisons. Bones are always fun to draw!
Will upload my RWF stuff after I find them. Challenge was definitely trying to balance "realistic rendering" and clarity.

On a side note, discovered that Toronto Star Sunday is having a 3 part series about condos with awesome pullout illustrations.

If you didnt buy the paper, here's the link to the digital one.http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1089426--vertical-toronto-the-high-life

Should really try and upload more non school things. /:

Sketch for that layout street view. It looks so much better as a thumbnail.

Had feedback that said this was super stylised... and I agreed. I'd just generalised the direction of the cloth so it's not really draping the form.
